What is it missing?

It occurred to me the other day that the iPad is the first computer in decades that, as a desktop incarnation, has no mouse. Yeah, I know, it's touch-based -- but look at it in the pic above. Your fingers have to go from typing on the keyboard to -- ungainly reach -- press an icon or screen space on the iPad. It's kinda awkward.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple figures this out and put a USB connection on the keyboard to allow a mouse. (And you *know* a USB port, mini or otherwise, is coming in Rev. B of the iPad. Along with GPS. And a camera. Which is why I'm waiting.

This has the potential to be the perfect computer for my dad, who really only does garden-variety web browsing and e-mail. If Jobs et al can get around the Flashlessness and the above-mentioned hardware shortcomings, they'll have a sale from me.

Although with over 100,000 selling on Day 1, they likely don't need my business that badly.

And a lofty fail...

Just a quick follow to the previous post, notable only because I recognize where these particular failers are -- the summit of Mt. Rundle in Banff National Park. They're about 9500 feet up, if memory serves, which might explain their giddiness, but I doubt it.

Indeed, an epic fail

The Fail Blog doesn't seem to be quite as well-known out there as it should be, so I'm just adding one more Google link to help 'em spread the word.

This one is a particularly epic fail. There are no other words for it.

Lucky

I know this has gone viral (because my dad just e-mailed it to me!) but this has moments of pure bliss nonetheless. The car-park is hilarious because it's so unexpected, but the bank robbery is straight out of a Marx Brothers movie.

Alert: Terrible music. Turn down volume now. You'll thank me.

MTV minus the M... and the TV

So MTV has finally returned to its roots, and in a fantastic move has put every music video in its collection online for free. Woo hoo! So why do I have a lo-res, YouTube version of Genesis' criminally underheard Tonight Tonight Tonight here?

Because the MTV videos cannot be shown outside the U.S. due to copyright restrictions.

I've never understood the logic behind this. What possible downside is there to offering something outside the U.S. for gratis that is freely available inside the U.S.? There are ways around it anyway, by using proxy servers or web proxies like The Cloak.

Dumb.

(The Genesis video above is worth watching both as one of their better late-era songs -- it's really the only good song on Invisible Touch -- but also for the humour value of watching the guys in their silly-looking '80s trench coats. I really like the Blade Runner vibe in the early half of the vid, though, before it sags a bit near the end. The song itself is pure genius.)

Just try getting this song out of your head

It's been in mine for the last half-hour since I saw this, and now it's in yours, too. Sorry. (Via BoingBoing.)
